  • July 19, 2010: The Antiretroviral Guidelines Panel of the International AIDS Society–USA has released updated treatment guidelines for HIV-infected adults that focus on preventing the progression of HIV infection to AIDS. These findings highlight the importance of initiating antiretroviral therapy early, even in asymptomatic patients. The updates are available in the July 21, 2010 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.   • June 24, 2010: Our latest Cases on the Web activity, Viral Blips in the HIV-Infected Patient, by Timothy J. Henrich, MD, and Daniel R. Kuritzkes, MD, is now available. This presentation introduces a case with various clinical decision points, each related to the care of an HIV-infected patient with intermittent low-level viremia, or “blips,” detected during routine laboratory monitoring.

  • June 23, 2010: Our latest Cases on the Web activity, Common Bacterial Infections in the HIV-Infected Patient, by Ricardo M. La Hoz, MD, and J. Martin Rodriguez, MD, is now available.   • February 2, 2010: SAVE THE DATE: The 13th Annual Clinical Conference for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program will be held August 23 to 25, 2010 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. It will be held in conjunction with the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program All Grantee Meeting, “Twenty Years of Leadership, A Legacy of Care.” Additional meeting information will be posted to this Web site, as soon as they become available.

  • January 15, 2010: The IAS-USA is deeply concerned about the impact of Tuesday's massive earthquake in Haiti. Our thoughts and prayers are with the citizens of and workers in Haiti, and we are eager to support them in the difficult times ahead. A simple and immediate way that our staff and leadership have found to help with these urgent needs is by donating to the Red Cross. Based on information made available by the Red Cross, you can donate $10 to the Red Cross by texting to 90999 and putting the word "Haiti" in the message. You can also mail a check to: American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013 or to your local American Red Cross chapter.

  • December 15, 2009: A major update of one of our most comprehensive Cases on the Web activities, HIV-Related Renal Disease, by Christina M. Wyatt, MD, and Lynda Anne Szczech, MD, MSCE, FASN, is now available! This advanced-level presentation advocates a proactive approach to screening for kidney disease to allow earlier treatment and to increase the likelihood of better outcomes for HIV-infected patients with renal complications.

Treatment Guidelines

  • Antiretroviral Therapy: The IAS–USA convened the 17-member panel of experts to update its recommendations for the use of antiretroviral treatment for adult HIV-1 infection. This panel's report appears in the August 21, 2006, issue of JAMA.

  • Antiretroviral Drug Resistance Testing: The IAS–USA has reconvened a panel of experts to update the published recommendations for antiretroviral drug resistance testing in adult HIV-1 infection. The panel's recommendations appear in the July 1, 2003, issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases.

  • Metabolic Complications: The International AIDS Society–USA convened a panel of 12 experts to develop recommendations for the diagnosis and management of the metabolic complications of HIV and its therapies. This panel's report was published in the November 1, 2002, issue of J Acquir Immune Defic Syndr (2002; 31:257-275) and is available online at www.jaids.com.
